Discover Dutch Masters
This winter you will discover Dutch Masters in Utrecht and Amersfoort. In the Central Museum you will meet the Utrecht Caravaggists Dirck van Baburen, Gerard van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen. Kunsthal KAdE Amersfoort and Museum Flehite dedicate an exhibition to Caspar van Wittel, one of the greatest seventeenth century artists, born in the city of Amersfoort. This exhibition is all about his work. Caravaggists and Van Wittel followed the same route to mastership in Rome.
Utrecht, Caravaggio en Europa

Utrecht, Caravaggio and Europe brings the Rome of 1600-1630 to Utrecht. At a young age Dirck van Baburen, Gerard van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen left for Rome, where Caravaggio had caused a revolution in painting. The exhibition shows this Utrecht Caravaggist next to their European colleagues for the first time. More than sixty loans, including a masterpiece from the Vatican : The entombment of Christ of the master Caravaggio (1571-1610). It is the first time for this work to be displayed in the Netherlands.Read more
MAESTRO VAN WITTEL - Dutch master of the Italian cityscape

Caspar van Wittel (1653-1736) was born in Amersfoort, left around 1673 for Italy, earned a good reputation for himself there and never returned to the Netherlands. Today, the vast majority of his works are in collections in Italy, England and Spain. Museum Flehite and Kunsthal KAdE honour this master, who is virtually unknown in the Netherlands, with a major retrospective.Read more
