Lively and attractive
The University District will show you the quirky side of Utrecht. Immerse yourself amongst young locals that have exchanged the university or the office for a cosy coffee bar. Go for a delicious meal in the evening and get to know Utrecht’s nightlife by hitting some of the many bars or café’s lining the Nobelstraat or Janskerkhof.
The Voorstraat, Nobelstraat and Janskerkhof
Breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacking and dining, it’s all possible in the University District. It’s the place to go for the best coffee, fresh juices and fine wines of Utrecht. If it’s a bite to eat you’re looking for then you will certainly find something you like here. Our tip: head to the Voorstraat, the street between the Neude and the Plompetorenbrug, to explore its many restaurants.
Looking to discover Utrecht’s student-life? Then head to the Nobelstraat and Janskerkhof in the evening and book yourself a bed at Strowis, a cosy hostel in a 17th century building in the middle of the University District.
From flowers to vintage and design
On Saturdays you will find the Flower Market on the Janskerkhof and a Fabric Market in the Breedstraat, the oldest fabric and textile market of the Netherlands. Not an expert with thread and needle? Follow the PUHA-route to discover Utrecht’s local design and vintage shops as an alternative.
Eager for more? Stroll along the Stadsbuitengracht and pay a visit to the Janskerk (Jans Church) and the mysterious Wolvenplein, a former prison within city walls.
