Original and authentic
The Dom District (Domkwartier) stretches from the hidden ‘Broodhuis’ (an old synagogue) and Mariaplaats (Maria Square) to the Pieterskerk (Pieterschurch) and Hieonymusplantsoen. At the heart of the city lies the Domplein (Dom Square). From here you can descend into DOMunder to discover over 2000 years of history or choose to ascend the Dom tower’s 465 steps and admire the view of the city from above.
Terraces and boutiques
From the Dom it’s a short walk to the Oudegracht, offering great views of the unique wharfs and leading to Museum Speelklok and the Zadelstraat – the oldest paved shopping street of Utrecht. The Dom square itself also houses plenty of restaurants, café’s and bars. Be sure to hurry when the sun comes out, as the terraces fill up quickly!
Dom District by night
When evening time falls in the Dom District, the beauty of its monumental buildings is highlighted even more by the magical lights of the the art route Trajectum Lumen. Should you be staying the night then be sure to cast a quick glance at the Dom before you head to bed – perhaps its lights are still dancing!
