Utrecht architect and designer Mart van Schijndel (1953-1999) designed his own house (1992) in which he brought together all his furniture designs from the 30 years of his career. The house is considered a ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, is the youngest monument in the Netherlands and is entirely in its original condition as an ensemble of architecture, interiorand garden design. In 1995, Van Schijndel was awarded with the Rietveld Prize for his innovative home. Clear links with Rietveld and De Stijl such as colour, spaciousness and the importance of craft will be discussed during this tour.
